Decrease of Rossby Wave Breaking Frequency over the Middle North Pacific in Boreal Summer under Global Warming in Large-Ensemble Climate Simulations

چکیده

Future change of Rossby wave breaking (RWB) frequency over the middle North Pacific (MNP) in August and related features large-scale atmospheric circulation are examined using large-ensemble simulations current future climates with a global model. Correlation analysis indicates that RWB MNP climate can show relationship El-Niño Southern Oscillation as reanalysis. Climate Change over the Equatorial Indo-Pacific in Global Warming*

The response of the equatorial Indian Ocean climate to global warming is investigated using model outputs submitted to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report. In all of the analyzed climate models, the SSTs in the western equatorial Indian Ocean warm more than the SSTs in the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean under global warming; the mean SST gradient acros...

Global Warming Patterns over the North Pacific: ENSO versus AO

The relationships between the natural variability and CO2-induced response over the Pacific region are investigated in terms of the spatial anomaly pattern of SST, sea level pressure and precipitation by a multi-model intercomparison analysis, based on the 18-model results contributing to the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report. The analysis indicates that the CO2-induced response pattern is related ...

Global Warming–Induced Changes in El Niño Teleconnections over the North Pacific and North America

El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) induces climate anomalies around the globe. Atmospheric general circulation model simulations are used to investigate how ENSO-induced teleconnection patterns during boreal winter might change in response to global warming in the Pacific–North American sector. As models disagree on changes in the amplitude and spatial pattern of ENSO in response to global war...

Climate Response of the Equatorial Pacific to Global Warming

The climate response of the equatorial Pacific to increased greenhouse gases is investigated using numerical experiments from 11 climate models participating in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment Report. Multimodel mean climate responses to CO2 doubling are identified and related to changes in the heat budget of the surface layer. Weaker ocean surface currents dri...

Summer Upper-Level Vortex over the North Pacific

During northern warm seasons, the overhead sun moves northward across the equator to the Northern Hemisphere. Because of the decrease in the meridional thermal gradients, particularly in midlatitudes, the Northern Hemisphere summer circulation becomes less rigorous in its intensity. In spite of this seasonal change, certain circulation elements still distinctly stand out. As shown in Fig. 1a, t...
